It's not very large in width or circumference . You could but I think you can find a better fitting holder for banana peels.

Yes, I only use this for decorative affect. Very pretty and attracts birds, because of the colors, To my bird feeders. It is a beautiful piece and added decoration to my garden area. I sometimes put A small tea light in it to be on a twilight to reflect the colors. It reflects well and makes me happy.
