The ZAZZ DLP LED Projector is a Short throw projector powerful with 3800 Lumens. Its light weight and compact size make it a very portable product. Filled with latest technologies like HDMI, USB, TF Card, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3D-Link Technology, is the ultimate solution for home, business and leisure. What are ANSI lumens? As the amount of light outputted by projectors varies across each model, a standardized procedure for testing projectors for brightness has been established by the American National Standards Institute, which involves averaging together a number of brightness measurements taken at different positions, to give a level of brightness for the projector that is quoted in “ANSI lumens”. The lumen is basically a measure of the total amount of visible light emitted from the projector. The greater the ANSI lumen number, the brighter the projected image will appear and, in most cases, the more the projector will cost. However, it is important to note that a projector with the highest ANSI lumen rating does not necessarily mean it is the best projector to use for your presentation application. It is important to consider what you intend to use the projector for and match the level of brightness to your requirements so you can achieve an optimal image that is not too dim or not too bright for your presentation environment.

Airplay and firmware upgrade challenges forced us to return this
This is a very solid and nice looking projectorUpon receiving it it was boxed very professionally all of the cords in individual boxes and overall a very high-quality item.Upon initial power on I found the lumens to be very acceptable. the system focused with a manual dial on the side and that was a really easy to use. Keystone management is not turned on by default or at least on ours it was not but once enabled the system easily removed keystoning which was very helpful. After some use with the soft buttons on top of the unit I realized very quickly the easiest and best way to interact with this unit is the handheld remote that they provided. The remote initially seems solid but I think over time with the mobility of the projector the remote could get lost or easily damaged because it's a small plastic piece. For us we needed this projector to do a few things very effectively. The first and most important is the ability to perform airplay mirroring between an Apple product. We were unable to get this to work effectively with any videos that we wanted to play, e.g. Apple Movies, Netflix, vudu, YouTube, etc.The second most important thing is that this needs to be really easy for my spouse to use both for personal and our business. With the difficulties surrounding airplay it became very evident that this device would not be something that she could easily use.The third item which I never got the test is the ability to easily connect us via Bluetooth to a set of linked ion audio block rockers. The overall goal here is to be able to drop my iPhone and the projector on a stand roll up the block rockers and show a video w/solid sound, no Muss no fuss.We never got to test the Bluetooth, but we did try to make the projector work. we upgraded the firmware upon initial use. We investigated the firmware upgrade process on the Zazzstyle website looking at both their technical support and a community members feedback. The unfortunate part is that Neither written instructions on their website allowed us to upgrade the firmware. it was only after punching a few buttons that USB drive was read. it become an option to upgrade the firmware, but it was on one of the advanced menus basically it was hidden from Normal use. This was a very painful process, considering we spent ~$750 (retail is $899 + tax) our expectations were set accordingly.Even after the firmware upgrade we were unable to get [any video] to airplay to the projector over Wi-Fi.We bought this on an Amazon deal at $699 + tax (prime) our expectation is that it just works and that it's easy for my spouse to use in any situation.

All I want is a projector that works and small enough to carry in a carry-on. Too much to ask?
I wanted to love this feature-rich projector. Wifi, check. Bluetooth, check (worked great with my mini bluetooth keyboard) and picture, not bad, but flickering....OH, and it got HOT. And I mean really hot. (see thermal picture.) But the 'nuisance' items were a bit too much. Like the other reviewer, Remote battery was DOA. I had a spare so got it to work. It was able to take my Logitech keyboard and mouse, too, but it seems to like the remote. The unit is unstable. Saw another reviewer had gotten a firmware upgrade. It all came apart here because I spent the better of a day and a half (long weekend) trying to get this to work. The download was unstable and took multiple tries, more than one computer, three browsers, and I'm not sure I even got the whole thing because of errors. You have to get it from Multcloud, and it is not only painfully slow, but disconnects frequently, and you cannot refresh it to restart. After thinking I finally got it, I loaded it only to find that the developers sent a *.bin file NOT an APK as required by an android device. I searched for converters, nothing reliable. Also contacted the company through their contact page and I've gotten NOTHING back. The unit appears to be exclusive to Amazon in the US, so I hope that Amazon has some pull with these guys. Against my better judgment, I have put in for an exchange, and willing to try this again. If successful, I will update my review. But for right now, I've lost billable hours dealing with this thing.

It's an OK projector
I'm still testing it, but here is my initial thoughts. This thing is not worth anywhere near $1000. Maybe a few hundred at most. It is not very bright at all. It is only 800 lumens and needs a dark rook to display adequately. It is not really a short throw projector. it's more like a medium throw at best. I had difficulty getting the wifi to actually work, except when using the browser. It wouldn't let me log in to android. Like others have said, the remote battery was dead, but luckily I had a spare. It took me several hours to download the new firmware from the website. It does have nice features potentially though, if they worked properly.Update: I tried updating the firmware with the instructions online. I'm not sure if it worked because the projector didn't turn back on like they said it will. It connects to the internet now, but can't update or download any google apps. It has android 4.4 installed but no way to update it. I couldn't get it to connect wireless to any of my devices except for 1 phone and I couldn't get it to connect with the HDMI to anything except for a different phone. Since I got it for under $200 I might keep it, but it has many problems making it almost useless. It has nice features for the price, but they don't all work. If I was to do it again, I would buy a Benq for $500 which is much better, a real short throw, and much brighter.Update:After 2 years the price is still around the same. I can't believe they still seem this. It is really outdated and not worth the asking price. I still use it once in a while, but all the problems with it make it hard to deal with (wifi issues, has to be almost directly horizontal with the wall, very outdated android and almost not usable because no way to update certain apps, not bright enough, bluetooth lag when contacted to external speakers, etc)
