If your water clouds due to bacteria bloom you need thus UV light to PUT INSIDE THE FILTER! The fish can’t be exposed to this light, it’s deadly to them. I’ve had this light now for 3 weeks and zero cloudy water! Highly recommended if you have this issue (bacterial bloom) check the size of the light to make sure it will fit in your filter. I have a smaller filter so I chose this one. It works excellent. There are 3 time settings, I was running it non stop and noticed my digital thermometer in there was up to a high temp that could have cooked my fish. I had to put an ice pack in there quick to cool it down to the normal temperature. So 3 things, make sure the light will fit in the filter, watch the water temperature, don’t expose the light to the fish. This solved my cloudy water that I found out was bacterial bloom. My beta deserves the best, I love my little guy!

Like most purchases from Amazon I wasn't sure what to expect. The instructions are clear enough to show that the bulb DOES NOT go directly in the tank. The blue light will kill fish and damage your eyes. The light goes in the filter. I had to take the sponge out of mine so it would fit. You should not see light if it's implanted correctly.I have a 9 gallon tank that had an algae bloom. The water was so green that you couldn't see the back of the tank.i put this little light in, set it for 12 hour cycles. There were noticeable differences every day. On the third day it was clear and on the 4th day it was crystal. I took the bulb out, put it back in the box and will use it if I need it again. No need to keep it in the tank if the water is clear without it.

We had a lot of algae that we couldn't get to stay away. It was almost like a continual bloom cycle going on that we couldn't stop, despite all the pet store suggestions. Finally a website suggested a UV filter and that's when I found this.I didn't take before/after pictures, which would've been great advertising for this.What I did was to take the cartridge out of the filter then put this light inside and let it run for 3 hours. Then I removed the light, put the cartridge back in. I did it one more time a day later and now the water is clear!Before I started all this, I had the walls all brushed clear of algae so I could really see how clear the water got after the second treatment.We have a 5 gallon tank with GloFish and live plants.The live plants seemed to have brought the algae with them... I guess from now on we'll use an isolation tank for new plants, using this light to kill any free loading algae from the store.

It worked great at first, now the bulb is purple at the base with just a little green on the end. Thinking the bulb is going bad. Haven't had it very long. Requested refund. Nothing yet, been almost two weeks. Very disappointing. Ordered a new one, seems to work fine. Wish I could get my refund back on the second one tho. I was nice enough to try a third one. They could process my return a little quicker. I dropped it off at UPS store ten days ago. If they'll process my return, I'll change my rating to better stars.

I gave the product a fair chance. First of all misleading. Definitely DOES NOT WORK on 20Gal tanks. Then there’s the timer which is completely stupid. I thought it was saying run for 12hrs a day. Nope it run for only 12hours then it turns off. This light has been in my tank for about a month. And honestly the tank has gotten even worse. I usually don't write reviews but wish I would have read something like the before purchasing. DON’T WASTE YOU MONEY.
