Nice grill
I picked this up from HD where it was significantly less expensive and I get a military discount. I already have a large grill for parties so I wanted something smaller, easy to use, and durable. I already had this in my sights when I got to HD and the display confirmed the cast iron grates and aluminum body. The collapsible stand was also sturdy so I was in, I got the last box.Grill was packed good and assembly consisted of the wheels/axle and the handles, that’s about it and it took 1 cross tip screwdriver and 1 person. Took me a couple tries to get the collapse action down but no problem with that. These gridiron’s have a hookup for small propane cylinders under the control knob. I’m not thrilled with that and I already have a adapter hose for a large tank in my Amazon cart for $10.Lighting was easy with the battery operated electric popper and a locking, horizontally mounted control knob that’s inconveniently located on the “side table”. I was surprised how fast it heated up. On a 88 degree day it took maybe 5 minutes to get to 500. I oiled the cast iron grate and was ready to cook. The single burner loops around and covers the 385sq in cooking area pretty well. Cooking some pounded out marinated chicken revealed what I surmised, the real heat followed directly above the loop burner, not terrible but noticeable. The heavy grate did a nice sear job but only above or close to the burner tube. The grill maintained heat well and my chicken was done in 6-7 minutes.I’m happy with this purchase and here’s a short list of pros and cons;Pros:Materials seem nice, especially the cast iron grateSturdy expanded and collapsedEasy light gas & fast heatMinimal assemblyCons:At least 1/3 of side table obstructed by control knob and lighting buttonHeat concentrated mostly above burner loopShallow lid limits any tall items or a warming shelf
