perfect bliss
I am a die hard fan of this womans writing. The first page had me hooked and well I was just putty in her hands after that - if she had written the phone book with as much attention to detail I was a fan.Clare and Jamie are just 2 wonderful charachters that I defy anyone not to fall in love with, I cried and laughed along with them and I am Irish so ususally American authors and their "Oirish/Scottish/Gaelic" attempts turn me off but this was just sheer perfection, I was forgetting dinners/housework just to keep hearing about Clare and Jamies escapades and well I was not sorry. Buy the book see for yourself and welcome to the fab world that is Diana Gabaldon.

Addictive delight!
Marvellous book. I started reading it after watching the first eight episodes back-to-back on Amazon Prime. I was outraged to learn that despite being set and filmed in Scotland, the U.S. had already seen all of series one before we'd heard of it, and now they're holding out on us. A paltry episode a week is all we'll get. Book is exactly like the series, which is rare in itself, and I'm just glad I've bought the whole series of books to-date to see me through the week-long wait for episodes. Nice to read an intelligently-written book with full use of the English language! An absolutely addictive delight!

LOVE THIS BOOK!!!
Such a brilliant, wonderful story. Has been a favourite since i was a teenager & bought this copy for a friend. I'm really fussy about authors because i find most of them waffle or loose the plot, but Diana Gabaldon is such a brilliant writer & I cannot get enough of this series. She writes so well that gets the story going while managing to introduce the characters & their part in the story. I've never once got lost or wondered what the hell was going on. Once you've read this, get the other books in the series to continue the story, as it's wonderful! :)

Something New, Different and Brilliant!
I love picking up a book unexpectedly, and that's what I did with this one. In one of my avid new book searches I happened on this beautifully written book and I'm so glad I ordered it!I honestly had no idea it had such a big following then after I read it apparently it had been filmed for a TV series! (Which I still want to see!)I'm not going to divulge what it's about you can read that on the summary, but just take my word for it this book is definitely something different, you'll fall in love with the characters. It has time travel, romance, humour, violence, adventure. That's pretty much it, Just read it!

Brilliant book!
I loved this book. I enjoy time slip stories and this is one of the best of that kind I have read. I love the drama but also that it is full of humour as well. As for the main couple. I loved Claire, who is a brave and feisty heroine and more than a match for Jamie. As for him, he has quickly become a favourite. He is fierce, brave, honourable, passionate, funny, and kind and his love for Claire is just incredible and beautifully written.

Book and Kindle book by Diana Gabaldon
I was recommended to this title by my daughter, and was soon deep into it; I got the book, and then the e-book, so that I could read upstairs and down, without taking one with me; and it was well worth it; don't get a lot of spare time for reading, so with the Kindle I can seize every spare moment during the day!It is a great story, full of excitement, and well written; it is nearly 900 pages long, but it is hard to put down when you have to be elsewhere; it is the first in the 'Outlander' series, and I shall certainly follow it up; I had previously read a couple of books in the Lord John series, so knew she was a good writer, well researched; if you like stories set in Scotland (mostly) and in earlier times (starts in present day), and adventure, you will like this. Gentle warning, if you don't like a few slightly seamier bits, this might not be for you!

Good story, but didn't like the heroine
I mostly enjoyed this book (whose US title is Outlander) but I found Claire, the heroine, extremely irritating. She travels back in time from 1946 to 1743 and that aspect attracted me to the book, but I was a little disappointed. There was a point in the middle where I wondered if I should just give up on it. But the plot picked up again with a witch trial and I didn't have any trouble staying interested after that. Just wish I could have liked Claire ...

Looking forward to number two
I was sent in the direction of this series of novels by friends who'd enjoyed them. So far I've read this one but its whetted my appetite to read the others when I have time. I can see that the mini series planned for the autumn will bring Ms Gabaldon more fans. I am a bit of a history geek and enjoyed the accuracy of the background and as for Jamie . . . like many other readers I completely fell in love with him.
