Horse: A Portrait: A Photographer's Life With Horses

When I was Amazon shopping for a gift for my sister, this book came to my attention. I read the reviews of former buyers, which were pretty much in agreement that this is an excellent book. So I took a chance and ordered it -- they were right! The photography is outstanding! I believe my sister was enthralled with it because she spent almost more time looking at the book than she did with her guests! If you or someone you know is a great fan of horses, I can highly recommend this book as a perfect gift.

I was looking for a book with good photos of horses for my daughter's 50th birthday, and this really filled the bill. It has lots of photos, some full page, some 3 or 4 to a page, all excellent, and range from beautiful documentary to wonderful artistic expressions. Even better, the text covers the backstory behind the photos. The author is passionate and a good writer, so you feel like you are really there with her and it gives you an idea of what goes on behind seemingly "easy" photos.I've been a professional photographer for over 40 years; but you don't have to be a photographer to really enjoy it.Heck, you don't even have to like horses to enjoy it.

OK, so the LAST thing I need is another book, but this was so breathtakingly beautiful, I HAD to have it!Page after page of the power and grace and pure beauty of horses, captured by this talented author/photographer. It is pure art and deserves a place of honor in the home of any horse lover.My only criticisms are:1.)The cursive captions are difficult to read, as the ink is too light against the white pages.2.) While many of these gorgeous animals are identified by breed and or name, there are many that have no captions. So when I come across one that takes my breath away, often there is no info at all.Still this is a wonderful book, either for yourself or for the horse lover in your life. Highly recommended!

It is absolutely enthralling - I don't want to put it down.This is an excellent gift for horse enthusiasts and for anyone who enjoys sheer beauty and majesty.The photography is exemplary and without blemish.If you are a casual artist such as myself and my sister literally every page has an amazing model for work.Your money will be well spent and all your apprehensions will disinegrate the second you open the book.I am going to order another one for myself.P.s. It would make a great coffee table book

We got this as part of a Christmas package for my sister-in-law who is confined to a wheelchair in a rest home. She loves horses. We took a quick look before wrapping it and sending it off and were totally impressed with the incredible photography. This is a quality, classic book of horse photos. Many of them have been taken at a very fast shutter speed, showing animals in fast motion. Others show the quiet moments and there are some amazing shots as well. Totally worth the cost for those who like horses, excellent photography, or both.

My sister gave me this book many years ago as a gift, and since then, I have given it to many friends. It has absolutely beautiful photos, and wonderful information about horses. Any horse lover will love this book. It is truly one of the best I have seen.

I purchased this book for a gift for a horse lover. The picture and title led me to believe that this was more of a personal memoir of the author and her personal horses. The pictures inside were beautiful, but the literary content was more a general information about horses, breeds etc... I was hoping for a more personal memoir and photos of the author for inspiration and insight on daily life in the presence of horses. Although disappointed that this book was not what I thought it would be, it will make a lovely coffee table book.

Fantastic photographs!! Will buy more than one of these books to give out and keep for myself! Front cover when I received it wasn’t the most perfect in shape, for my standards. But was OK and I did not have time to return it for another one. It will not stop me from buying Some more.

An awesome photographic work, this book is pure art, and it is definitely a must have if you love horses.
