Top quality desk!
I work from home, and after developing Coccydynia from sitting too much, I needed an adjustable desk which allowed me to stand. I had this desk stored for a while and it's finally come to good use.The desk itself is extremely simple to set up and use. It is very well made and comes fully assembled. The pneumatic lift allows for easy and quick adjustment, and the colour coded hand chart helps identify the best position for optimal comfort while standing. The top deck provides ample space for my 43-inch monitor, and the lower deck has enough room for a full-size keyboard and mouse. There's really nothing not to like about this desk, apart from the price perhaps. It's not cheap, but it is a quality desk from a well-known brand.Recommended!

Great item, works well but costly
This is a really great item that works well but is costly. You know why it's pricey as soon as you lift the box. Kensington aren't know to be at the cheaper end of anything and they aren't messing about here. It's very substantial metal in construction with good thickness of shelving too. I do have a few usability gripes but overall, before you read on, I will say you won't regret buying this if you can afford the outlay.Let's give some good news. It's not that problematic to put together first of all. You look at the pictures and read the info given. You have to do some head scratching because the instruction for me at least were not quite crystal clear, but I only made a couple of easy to reverse construction errors. Cable routing is very good and helps keep everything clean and tidy and functional. Monitor bracket is industry standard, so if you have a suitable monitor then fitting is simple. The motion of the whole unit is really very nice too. There's a trigger type grip that allows you to move everything around effortlessly. So you really can just work sat down for a while and within a second or two then be standing and carry on.Minor gripes ... you need a decent table with an edge suitable for the substantial clamp. If you have a flimsy table and a less than ideal clamp surface then the whole thing could be a little unstable. Not sure this is a gripe, more a reality of the situation warning. The hand sizing thing is not really needed IMO. I have used it before with a Kensington system and it does help but I'm of the view you'd have got there quicker and just as well adjusting things to suit yourself. I would have liked a dual monitor provision, but it's not a deal breaker for me.I really do feel this gadget will help me. I don't normally suffer back problems, but sometimes if I'm sat much of the day then I can get twinges, much worse if it's for several days. It's actually really nice standing a while with the keyboard and monitor in the perfect working position. So I have no hesitation in recommending the unit for build quality, function, aesthetics and all 'round usability. My only mild concern is around price. It is well made and substantial, but at close to £300 currently, and a RRP of close on £500, then you'd need to be convinced this is your best option. So some shopping around might be in order. If cash is not an issue, I really don't think you'll regret the investment in this model.

Arrived with broken pneumatic arm
This is a well designed standing desk with quite a bit of flexibility in how you're able to use it.However I spent 30 mins trying to get past the second page of instructions before realising that my pneumatic arm was broken as it's rigidly locked into place and nothing will make it budge. That's really really poor Quality assurance for a problem like this to get through the production line considering how expensive these desks are.Which is a real shame as the actual equipment is solid and well built. The instructions however are terrible. They make Ikea instructions look like a gold standard.

Pricey desktop ergonomics, no user memory
This sit/stand 'desk' from Kensington is a surprisingly large bit of kit. It arrives in an absolutely enormous box (a clear two-person lift), weighing over 24kg. Inside the box, there is quite a lot of packaging, although most of this is in the form of sheets of really strong cardboard with a sort of honeycomb structure to it. There is also a small amount of single use plastic - a bag covering the pre-assembled workstation, a bag containing the instruction guide, and another containing a pair of Allen keys. There is no pre-assembly required, but should the keyboard tray not be needed, one of the Allen keys is the correct size to remove this, freeing up space on your desk space, whilst the other can be used to adjust the tension in the lift assembly, according to the actual weight load under which you have it operating, to give the smoothest possible transition between positions. The all black design is quite modern and sleek. It has an all-over plastic finish that's lightly textured on the main platform and keyboard tray. I'm not hugely keen on this plastic effect. Although this isn't a desk, but rather a transitioning workstation support that goes on top of a desk, table, or workstation area, its surface area is around the same size as a full desktop. The lift assembly is strong and effective, but also quite chunky. This definitely feels like overkill with just my 21.5" iMac on it, but for times when I'm working between my laptop and the iMac or (occasionally) with a PC as well, the size is going to prove handy.Kensington base their ergonomics and the correct settings for this around a 4-step colour-coded hand print chart that correlates to colour-coding on the workstation. You fit your hand to the chart, and the optimum setting for you is determined by the colour zone into which your middle finger fits. I wasn't entirely clear on this from the image-based explanation in the instruction manual, and did resort to checking the Kensington website, to disambiguate whether I was supposed to be basing my optimum settings on middle finger length, longest finger length, or best fit of hand. As it happens, I was worrying too much. This has a fully flexible adjustment system, rather than a graduated one, and you can set the height to the borderline between two colour zones, right in the middle of one, or anywhere else within a zone that seems to best correlate to your hand/chart fitting. The lift system is very, very powerful and the 'trigger' needs to be squeezed fairly lightly to ensure smooth, gentle lifting. Something I do note as a significant omission is that this doesn't seem to include any kind of memory function that can be set to the main/regular user of a machine's recommended stand mode level. Total flexibility is useful with terminal positions shared by a general population... but regularly swapping users who don't spend much time at a particular machine (and don't know how to alter a platform to fit) are less likely to need ergonomic support than a routine machine user. I can completely understand that a basic stop that abruptly terminates movement would be a bad idea (as this could dislodge and damage equipment), but it should be possible to integrate a graduated stop that would slide into a favoured position for a regular user. This is a good item, but the RRP is excessive. There don't seem to be colour choices, and there's no optimal position memory. At the time of writing, Amazon are selling at £200 below RRP

After seeing many models, this is the best one I found
I just got my Kensington SmartFit Sit/Stand workstation today. This thing is definitely not flimsy. I had looked at a lot of desktop sit/stand units but all of them require a straight desk, whereas I have a cubicle style corner desk with a rounded corner where the keyboard tray would go. All of the other units I looked at either had a keyboard tray that was too wide, or too high (i.e. sits on the desk, I need my keyboard tray below desk level when sitting). I love that in the sit-down position, I can get the keyboard almost exactly where my old keyboard tray was - I'm a bit off centre, but given that the monitor is tied to the position of the keyboard tray, that is of no real concern. The keyboard is exactly where I need it and the monitor is exactly where I need it - the colour coded guide that is based on your hand size was actually spot on in getting those two adjustments right for me. I'm 5'9" and this unit is the perfect size for me. I suspect the very short and the very tall may not find it so perfect, but that's just my assessment. I also love that it is so adjustable. I love that it swivels at both the base and where the monitor & keyboard connect to the up/down arm. This is the main reason I am able to use it with my corner cube. The construction is solid. The box weighed a ton when I got it. Be warned. Some assembly is required, and if you're not good at putting together Ikea furniture, you'll find this frustrating. The only con is that I wish that either here on Amazon, or at the Kensington web site, they had the actual min/max dimensions. I ended up looking closely at the photos, and guessing that the tables they showed were 2ft deep, and took a chance and bought this. I would suggest a schematic diagram showing the product dimensions (min and max) to give buyers like me a real sense of whether it will fit before buying.

Love it!
I love this workstation - well made, easy to put together, sturdy. I've had some serious neck problems and my doctor recommended a sit/stand workstation in order for me to keep working without further damaging my neck. I probably stand half the time and my keyboard is finally where it's comfortable for my arms. I looked at other types, but figured I'd need to start by cutting the legs down on my desk so I could use the keyboard comfortably once it was up on the platform most of them put on top of your desk. My biggest concern was I have a MAC without VESA mount. The adapter I also purchased through Amazon worked perfectly. It does come in a lot of pieces - and takes a couple of hours to put together. The directions are quite good.

One was fine. One was missing a part and had to ...
We ordered three of these for our office. One was fine. One was missing a part and had to be returned and re-ordered. One had a defective part (Hydraulic arm was leaking fluid) and was returned, but we chose not to replace it. Instead we will order from another company.

Great features for the price.
The installation instructions could have used a few more words...they mainly used pictures with arrows and gestures to get their point across. I got through installation ok. Only took about an hour. The construction of this is super well-engineered! I love this desk. I'm up and down every 30 minutes and this looks and works great. Priced well. A group of us at work bought another sit/stand desk last year for a co-worker. That one cost about $30 more, with less flexibility. Way to go Kensington!
